Yurii Alekseevich Vasnetsov was born in the Town of Vyatsk. In 1921 he at the VkhutaMas art institute in Moscow, under Brazh and Petrov-Vodkin. He took classes from Malevich, Matyushin, and Lebedev.
He worked mainly a a book illustrator, in watercolour, drawings, and lithography. He also drew illustrations for the famous children's journal Murzilka.
He became a People's Artist of Russia in 1966, and received the Stalin Prize in 1971.
