Book Illustrations

Lev Tolstoy - the famous Russian novelist - had an abiding interest in children and children's literature and wrote tales and fables. Some of his fables are free adaptations of fables from Aesop and from Hindu tradition.

This exhibition shows the original gouache illustrations to his tale "Умная Галка" (The Clever Jackdaw), drawn by famous Moscow artist Marina Uspenskaya.

The book was published by "Malysh" in 1984. It was printed in 1 million copies, and the selling price was 20 kopecks.
