In 1951 Viktor Travin graduated from the Vera Mukhina School of Industrial Arts in Leningrad. He then continued his studies at the Moscow Institute of Polygraphy, graduating in 1959. Travin worked for various publications, and after 1958 contributed to The Militant Pencil. He was a member of the Union of Soviet Artists.
