Nikolai Lvovich Voronkov was born in Moscow. He studied at the Surikov Institute in Moscow from 1954-1960, under professor Kibrik.
He specialised in graphic works, preferring the media of gouache and lithography. He participated in his first exhibition in 1960, and became a member of the Artists' Union in 1967.
He is A People's Artist of Russia (Народный художник), and a member of the Academy of the Fine Arts.
