Thematic Shows

From 1930, sports played a vitally important role in building the image of the Socialist Society and the Soviet Man.

This exhibition shows a wide array of sportsmen and sporting scenes from the 1940s through the 1970s. Artists include Titov (himself a famous sportsman in the thirties), Mikhail Rojter (famous for his sports art), Gaev (well-known graphic artists from Almaty), Nikolai Tereschenko (famous poster craftsman), and Gavrilkevitch with a number of Deineka-inspired fencing scenes.

Also included is a rare collection of original sports caricatures, published in the famous Krokodil satire journal in the 1970s.

We show scenes from football, hockey, rugby, track-and field, gymnastics, swimming, fencing, skiing, ski-jump, speed-skating, figure-skating and ice hockey.

In the end of the exhibition you may find a rare collection of sports pins and medals of the 1950s and 1960s.
