Artist Portfolios

Aleksandr Kornilovich Zaitsev was born in Irkutsk, Siberia, in 1926. After finishing school, he was sent to the front where he served the whole WW2.

When he left the army in 1950, he entered the Moscow Surikov Art Institute, the department of graphics, where he specialised in book illustrations.

During his career, he worked in the publishing houses Detgiz, Molodaya Gvardiya, Izobrazitelnoe Iskusstvo, and Planeta - where he was the head artist. For the last 20 years of his life, he was head artist at the journal Yunii Khudozhnik.

In his "private" art life, Aleksandr Kornilovich painted Russian landscapes and the Russian village, using his favourite media of pastel and gouache.
