Yaroslav Viktorovich Titov was born in Warsaw. He went to school at the Zvenigorod Art School (lithography department). In the 1920's he moved to Moscow, where he studied at the famous VKhUTeMas under N. Kupreyanov. In the 1930's he studied at the Surikov Institute under Baksheev.

In the 1920s he was a member of the legendary group AKhRR (Association of Artists of Revolutionary Russia Artists).

His works are strongly influenced by the Russian avant-garde of the 1920's. In the 1930's he travelled extensively in Siberia, where he made a large series of industrial themes from Magnitogorsk. He also travelled to the Russian Far East and to China, depicted in many sketches and oils.

During the Second World War he served in Leningrad during the siege, and at the front near Voronezh. His impressions from the War are documented in a large number of sketches and smaller paintings.

He was a famous sportsman in the 1930's-1940's, playing in the Soviet national basketball team. His love for sports is reflected in his many masterful watercolours and oils, showing scenes from football, ice hockey, athletics and skiing.

His works are preserved at the collections of the major Russian art museums, including the Tretyakov Gallery and the Russian Museum.
