Yuriy Trunov was active in World War II, and in 1951 graduated from the Vera Mukhina School of Industrial Arts in Leningrad. He has been working in the press since 1950, began contributing to The Militant Pencil in 1956, and was a member of the Arts Council staff of that publication. Trunev took part in many national and international exhibitions, and in 1977 he was awarded a medal by the international jury for participating in the Third International Exhibition, “Satire for Peace.”

Trunev was a member of the Union of Soviet Artists and the Union of Journalists of the USSR.
