Ekaterina Zernova

Painter, book illustrator, poster artist, monumental painting master. Honoured painter of the RSFSR (1974).  A famous as a member of the Society of Easel Painters (OST), an author of sport and military series which reflected the growing power of the young USSR. She studied in the State Free Art Shops where her teacher was Ilya Mashkov (1919–1924). Member of the Society of Easel Painters (from 1925). In 1936 she held her first personal exhibition. In the post war years together with Yuri Pimenov she worked for the theatre and cinema. In her late works she abandoned the military, industrial and political motives and created the inspired smaller-size series of still lives and country landscapes (1970s–1990s).
