Graphic artist, designer

Aleksandr Gennadievich Marchenko was born in Krasnodar in Southern Russia. After finishing art college in Kuban he moved to Moscow in 1981, where he quickly got involved in the alternative art scene.

He has been working as a graphics designer for several of the new journals that emerged in the late 1980's and early 1990's.

His favourite medium is paper, often black or bright, untraditional colours. He applies oil using traditional brush and airbrush, and is very generous in adding gold and silver tones.

He characterizes his style as postmodernism, where he takes different recognizable objects and concepts, and recreates them using modern techniques and expressions.

His favourite painting objects today are nature, jazz-music, themes from Chekhov and Bulgakov, and women.
